Two of the survivors of the Titanic were dogs, both belonging to wealthy passengers.  Miss Margaret Hays of New York survived with her Pomeranian, and Henry Harper of the publishing family survived with his Pekinese.

The Irish wolfhound is one of the strongest dogs and can pick up another dog as large abd heavy as a mastiff.  When a wolfhound fights with another dog, it picks it up by the back and violently shakes it, breaking it's neck.

In ancient Egypt, dogs were used in hunting, as guards and police reinforcement, in military actions and were also enjoyed as household pets.
