Dogs with wrinkled faces, such as the basset hound, are prone to two diseases of the eyelid called entropoin and ectropion. Entropion causes the eyelid to curl up into itself; ectropion means the eyelid turns inside out. With either condition, the eyelid no longer protects the eyeball, and the corneal scratches that can result from surrounding hairs and dust particles can cause the dog extreme pain.
