Here is a gross one... Catgut, once used in stringed instruments and tennis rackets, actually came from sheep, hogs and horses.
This is a cool cat fact:
During the reign of Kublai Khan, the Chinese used lions on hunting expeditions. They trained the lions to chase and drag down large prey animals like bears and bulls, and to stay with the kill until the hunting party arrived.
