Egyptian Cats
During an archeological dig in Beni Hassan, Egypt in 1888, more than 300,000 mummified cats were found in a huge tomb. And what happened to them? The cat mummies were sold for $18.43/ton and shipped to England to be ground up and used as fertilizer. True story!
For the ancient Egyptians, losing a cat was a very significant event. All the members of the family would actually shave off their eyebrows to show their great mourning.
